Dysphagia due to an aberrant left subclavian artery in a right-sided aortic arch.

In 1794, Bayford described the post-mortem findings of a woman with lifelong dysphagia who eventually died of starvation, caused by oesophageal obstruction.' At post-mortem a right subclavian artery was identified passing aberrantly from a left-sided aortic arch behind the oesophagus, causing the woman's dysphagia. Dr Bayford referred to this extraordinary disposition ofthe right subclavian art...

Hybrid endovascular repair of aneurysmal right-sided aortic arch and Kommerell’s diverticulum using a two-vessel branched stent graft: Case report and review of literature

Right-sided aortic arches are rare, affecting approximately 0.1% of the population. They are a result of abnormal development of the primitive aortic arches and may present later in life with later life with aneurysmal expansion of the aberrant left subclavian artery 'Kommerell's diverticulum'. These can be challenging to treat effectively. We report a rare case presenting with mild dysphagia a...

Double aortic arch in an adult.

We present the case of a 60-year old man who complained of severe dysphagia caused by a double aortic arch (DAA) with a right-sided descending thoracic aorta. The left-sided aortic arch had a compressive segment located between the left subclavian artery and the descending thoracic aorta. Using left third thoracotomy, the segment, which caused compression of the oesophagus, was ligated and divi...
